In February 2005 the Department of Health (DH) funded BACP and UKCP to carry out research into the provision of counselling and psychotherapy training in the UK and the standards of that training and the codes of ethics and practice and conduct processes of all registering / accrediting counselling and psychotherapy organisations.
BACP was founded in 1978 and is leading the effort to make counselling and psychotherapy widely recognised as a profession whose purpose and activity is understood by the general public.
